The Lady Ducks under Head Coach Lawrence Bailey continued to make a statement and closed out the first half of 4A-District play with a bang at home Friday, Jan. 12 as the Taylor High School girls varsity basketball team dismantled Smithville High School 76-35 at home.

The visiting Lady Tigers had no answer to stop the Lady Duck trio of senior Asia Zachary, sophomore Madyson Mitchell and junior Kionayh Rivers all night as they combined to score 53 of Taylor’s 76 points on the night.

Zachary was dominant as she had a double-double effort for a gamehigh 20 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor, 11 rebounds, six steals and two assists. Mitchell had 17 points and six rebounds, while Rivers went off for 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocked shots.

Taylor sophomore Aubriana Alderete continued her solid play in district play with eight points of her own, while freshman Tiana Candee had six points, six rebounds and three steals in the win.

The Lady Ducks (14-7 overall, 6-0 district record) have rolled through the first half of district play with a balance of high-powered offense with elite team defense, have won all six games by at least 25 points and nine straight victories overall.

Following a home game Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. versus Austin Achieve High School, the Lady Ducks will then remain home Friday at 6:15 p.m. against Manor New Tech High School.
