The Taylor boys and girls track and field teams were in competition for the first time this month Friday, March 4, at the Rockdale Relays. The varsity boys finished second overall, and the varsity girls placed third overall.
“Our boys did a great job of competing as the varsity finished second overall and only lost to 5A Georgetown Eastview by nine points,” said boys coach Earven Flowers.
The team of Jarvis Anderson, Brandon Alderete, Jackson Meller and Christian Rohlack brought home first place in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:31.55.
Returning state qualifier Rohlack also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11:79 and first in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 1:58.24.
Anderson finished first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.93, the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.60 and the triple jump with a distance of 46 feet 7, inches. Anderson also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 1 inch.
Meller brought home another first place finish taking the top spot in pole vault with a height of 13 feet.
Marcus Jackson, Ashton Vega, Meller and Alderete finished second in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:34.36.
Rhett Richardson placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles at 17:31 and third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.76.
Andrias Fisher finished third in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 3 inches. Kemarius Miller placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles at 43:42. Dyant’E Vincent brought home fourth place in the shot put with a distance of 41 feet, 7 inches. Syrus Corley placed sixth in the same event with a distance of 40 feet, 7 inches and Shavion Warren took third in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 8 inches.
The Lady Ducks brought home gold in three events at Rockdale.
“I am so excited about how our kids competed at this meet today,” said Coach Shelli Cobb. “We did not have the anchor on all three of our Varsity relays, but the girls stepped up, took up the slack and let their opponents know that Taylor track was there.”
The 800-meter team of Destiny Lewis, Emma Whitsel, Aiyanna Thompson and Zakaya Frederick finished on top with a time of 1:48.71.
Aiyanna Thompson finished first in the 800-meter run with a 2:24.74 time, and Emma Whitsel finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15:96.
The 400-meter team of Lewis, Jayleigh Tillotson, Zakaya Thompson and Azalie Balusek finished second coming in at 52.63, and the 1600-meter relay team of Aiyanna Thompson, Lewis, Zari Thompson and Zakaya Frederick finished third with a time of 4:21.51.
Lewis also took third in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 8 inches. Azalie Balusek placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13:86. Ahjalei Davis placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 30 feet, ¼ inches, and also second in the discus with 92 feet.
