Lady Ducks, Lady Lions and Tigerettes wrap Taylor tourney

Taylor, Granger and Thrall all finished with winning records at last week’s Taylor softball tournament.  Granger finished 3-2 with wins over Rockdale, Killeen Shoemaker and Gateway Prep.  Thrall also finished 3-2 capturing wins over Rockdale, Austin Anderson and Killeen Shoemaker. The Lady Ducks powered through finishing 5-0 in the tournament to improve to 9-2 overall this season.

Taylor started off on Thursday, March 3, defeating Holland 13-2. They followed that up with a 4-0 shutout against Killeen Shoemaker. On Friday, March 4, the Lady Ducks took down Rockdale 11-6 and Thrall 8-0. To close things out on Saturday, March 5, the Lady Ducks defeated Granger 5-1. Kennan Nunamaker finished the tournament 10-for-16 and 10 runs. Lindsay O’Dell pitched 18 innings and brought her season strikeout total to 100 with 32 in the tournament.

The Lady Lions started the tournament with a big 11-0 routing of Rockdale, followed by a loss to Austin Anderson 8-4. On Friday the Granger took down Killeen Shoemaker 6-1 and then finished 1-1 on Saturday defeating Gateway Prep and falling to Taylor. Mattie Wilkie finished the tournament 7-for-12 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Amayah Simien, Alex Harwell and Payton Filla used a combined effort in Granger’s three wins.

The Tigerettes got off to a slow start in the tournament and dropped their first two games before rebounding for wins in their final three games. Thrall fell to Gateway Prep, after having an early 3-2 lead, by a score of 6-5 and fell in their first Friday game to the Lady Ducks. Thrall defeated Rockdale 6-5, Austin Anderson 13-5 and Killeen Shoemaker 6-5. Raelynn Johnson finished 7-for-13 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Aubrie Henderson struck out nine in 11 innings of work.

Taylor will be back in action this Friday, March 11, against Canyon Lake. The Lady Lions, with a 5-3 overall record, were at home last night against Milano, and the 8-7 Tigerettes traveled to Rosebud-Lott on Tuesday.
