BRYAN — The Hutto High School boys varsity basketball team let one get away Tuesday, Jan. 9 as the Hippos fell in a heartbreaking 54-51 overtime loss on the road at Bryan High School.
The Hippos led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter, were still up 19-16 at halftime and had a 33-23 lead heading into the fourth quarter. However, the Vikings’ offense came to life in the final frame and that momentum continued past regulation as the Hippos were outscored 12-9 in overtime.
Hutto senior Zachary Hicks had another double- double performance for the Hippos as he led the way with 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field and 14 rebounds, while junior Cylin Tate also scored in double figures with 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Hippos senior Dylan Patrick had a solid allaround game with eight points and six rebounds, while junior Jacob Bell added eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the loss against Bryan.
After Hutto is scheduled Jan. 12 to host rival Pflugerville Weiss High School, the Hippos (10-12 overall, 2-2 district record) under Head Coach Gant Caraway will remain at home Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. to resume 6A-District 12 play versus Waco Midway High School.
