Four youths suffered injuries — one critically — when they jumped off a bridge after wrecking a car reportedly stolen from Round Rock, Taylor police said.
As of Friday, one of the occupants remained in critical condition. Another suffered serious injuries, and the other two had minor scrapes, according to officers.
“The vehicle was reported stolen from Round Rock,” said Taylor Police Chief Henry Fluck. “Charges are pending.”
The episode began unfolding at 12:07 a.m. Friday, March 4, when the Taylor Police Department responded to reports of a one-vehicle mishap in the 900 block of Carlos G. Parker Boulevard SW.
“There was a total of four people in the car,” Fluck said. “One was an adult teenager. The other three were juveniles, and they were driving at a high rate of speed.”
Three of the youths hail from Taylor while the other is from Round Rock, investigators said.
According to Fluck, after the vehicle struck a guardrail and came to a rest, the occupants bolted from the wreck.
“They ran towards the median and they jumped off the bridge,” Fluck said. “They fell about 25 feet, and two of the four boys were taken by EMS to (a nearby) hospital.”
Williamson County Emergency Medical Services and the Taylor Fire Department responded to the scene.
“They had to work hard,” said Fluck. “There’s a very steep embankment to get the juveniles into the ambulance.”
Fluck said officers are keeping the teen listed in critical condition in their thoughts and hope he makes a full recovery.
