Jan. 13, 1999: After a full year of speculation, Michael Jordan announced that he was ending his professional basketball career at the age of 35 as a six-time NBA champion. It was the second retirement for Jordan, who had called it quits in 1993 following the death of his father. Like his first retirement, he left the game on top, having just won back-to-backto- back titles with the Chicago Bulls.
