Lady Ducks sting Lady Hornets

CALDWELL — It was business as usual Tuesday, Jan. 9 as the Taylor High School girls varsity basketball team went on the road and the Lady Ducks cruised to a 61-22 victory in 4A-District 22 against the Lady Hornets of Caldwell High School.

Team defense continues to be a major part of Taylor’s success this season as the Lay Ducks stifled Caldwell the whole game with 29 deflections, 18 steals and seven blocked shots in a 39-point win.

Four Lady Ducks scored in double figures Tuesday night with sophomore Madyson Mitchell, sophomore Aubriana Alderete, junior Kionayh Rivers and senior Asia Zachary.

Mitchell was Taylor’s leading scorer versus Caldwell with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor to go along with four rebounds and two steals, while Alderete scored an individual season-high with 13 points to help propel the Lady Ducks to victory.

Rivers dominated both ends of the floor for the Lady Ducks as she had 12 points with two three-pointers made, four rebounds, three steals, two blocked shots and two assists. Zachary was also in double figures with 10 points, five steals and two assists.

The Lady Ducks have dominated district play as this team is in the driver’s seat to go undefeated the rest of the regular season before the playoffs start next month. Following a scheduled home district game Jan. 12 versus Smithville High School, the Lady Ducks (13-7 overall, 5-0 district record) under Head Coach Lawrence will hit the road Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. to play Austin Achieve High School in the second half of district play.

Taylor will then return home Jan. 19 at 6:15 p.m. for a matchup with Manor New Tech High School.
