More kindness

GOOD NEWS

BY ISABELLA TEBEAU

“I wanted to share something that makes me so proud to live in this town. It might be a bit long, but it’s so heartwarming. A family member adopted animals that she was not allowed to have according to her lease, and they were facing eviction. I took in two guinea pigs, three leopard geckos and two bearded dragons to help them keep their apartment.

The animals came with very very little in the way of supplies and appropriate enclosures. But this town is something special.

The guinea pigs were adopted almost immediately. My family member was not ready to adopt out the reptiles, so I needed to find enclosures and information on how to care for them.

I posted on the Buy Nothing group about the situation and within a couple of days I had tanks, heat lamps and ultraviolet lights and supplements, and a friend even made custom hammocks for the bearded dragons. There’s no way I could have purchased all of this, we are talking probably close to $1,000 for everything that was needed. All of the animals ended up with appropriate enclosures and everything they needed, simply from the kindness of people who live in this town.

In the meantime, my family member’s apartment management allowed them to have two animals back in the apartment. I returned the two animals they chose with all of the appropriate supplies and a ton of reptile care knowledge so we can avoid this going forward.

The two remaining leopard geckos have been adopted out to people in this town that are equipped to handle them and have the space and resources to keep them healthy and happy.

My family member gifted the bearded dragon to my roommate.

So, what started as an incredibly stressful situation has ended with a renewed appreciation for the kindness of people in our town, and the gift of new family members for several residents here. To say that I am grateful is an understatement.”

“Happy New Year Taylor.

I just wanted to say how much I’ve appreciated some good experiences lately.

First, Lozano’s. It’s always on point and has the best tacos ever. I had there barbacoa for the first time on New Year’s Day and it was absolutely amazing. Also, I have had the most excellent experiences with the staff at H-E-B and at Walmart lately. The friendliness and the cleanliness, and also I was able to find everything I needed.

So thankful.

And, also to the really sweet gentleman at the gas station Tuesday morning that complimented my hair. I mean seriously, I was in a rush because I wasn’t feeling well and trying to hurry up and get to my job on time, it’s like 6:40 in the morning and it was a little bit windy, so my hair was in curlers all night long and I didn’t really like how it turned out and the sweetest man said to me I had the prettiest hair he had seen in a long time. That made me happy. Thank you to the kindness of everyone I have encountered so far this year on day number four.

“Thank you to the Sunday crew at Mr. Gatti’s. You made my daughter’s birthday party great.

Brandon made specific pizzas just for the girls, and they loved it. They all enjoyed it, and we thank you for your generosity.”
