GIDDINGS — The Taylor High School girls varsity basketball continued its strong play in 4A-District 22 Friday, Jan. 5 as the Lady Ducks went on the road and handled business with a lopsided 72-34 victory against the Lady Buffaloes of Giddings High School.

The Lady Ducks did it all with tight team defense and high-powered offense as Taylor forced a lot of Giddings turnovers on one end of the floor and converted them to points on the other.

Taylor got yet another balanced scoring effort Friday in Giddings as Lady Ducks senior Asia Zachary put forth a double-double effort with a game-high 18 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor, 10 rebounds, five steals and three assists. Fellow senior Ansley Reed had 16 points on two made three-pointers, four steals and three rebounds against the Lady Buffaloes.

Lady Ducks junior Sophia Fisher also had a solid all-around game and scored in double figures with 12 points on two shots made from behind the arc, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Junior Kionayh Rivers added eight points, had a team-high 11 rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists.

Sophomore Madyson Mitchell also scored eight points and had seven rebounds, while sophomore teammate Aubriana Alderete had six points and made a pair of treys.

Taylor (12-7 overall, 4-0 district record) has dominated district play so far under Head Coach Lawrence Bailey as the Lady Ducks have soundly beaten Austin Achieve High School, Manor New Tech High School, La Grange High School and Giddings. Following a district road game Jan. 9 at Caldwell High School, the Lady Ducks will return home Friday at 6:15 p.m. to host Smithville High School.
