GIDDINGS — The Taylor High School boys varsity basketball team under Head Coach Stephen Gibson picked up its most important victory so far this season as the Ducks were able to grind 4A-District 22 foe Giddings High School for a 51-49 win on the road.

The Ducks and the host Buffaloes went blow-for-blow in a pivotal district game for both teams but Taylor got the upper hand with timely scoring and tight team defense down the stretch of the fourth quarter to edge Giddings.

Led by the duo of senior Treos Richardson and junior T.J. Whybrew, the Ducks also got a clutch basket down the stretch by senior Antonio Torres and held on late for the win. Richardson went off for a game-high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, eight rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocked shots. Whybrew also was a major factor in the victory over Giddings as he had 20 points on four three-pointers made, four rebounds and three steals.

Taylor (6-14 overall, 1-1 district record) is scheduled to have another district road game Jan. 9 at Caldwell High School and the Ducks will return home Friday at 7:30 p.m. to host Smithville High School with a chance to stay in the win column. The Tigers are led by Head Coach Chris Young, who is a former assistant coach with Taylor boys basketball.
