The Taylor High School boys varsity basketball team split its two non-district matchups last week as the Ducks got a victory at home Dec.
27 over Austin Travis Early College High School and were defeated Dec. 29 on the road at Austin McCallum High School.
TAYLOR DUCKS 73, AUSTIN TRAVIS REBELS 64
The Ducks put an end to a three-game losing streak last Wednesday as Taylor was able to take care of business at home with a 73-64 win over the visiting Travis Rebels.
Taylor got off to a 15-12 lead after the first quarter, pushed its lead to 40- 42 at halftime, held a 54-43 advantage at the end of the third quarter and had its lead grow to as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter.
In a balanced scoring attack, the Ducks had four players score in double figures with senior Treos Richardson, junior T.J. Whybrew, junior Eli Laurence and junior Kylon Harris.
Richardson led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds, Whybrew had 16 points with two threepointers made and six assists, Laurence had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Harris added 10 points with two shots made from behind the arc.
Taylor senior Antonio Torres added seven points with five rebounds and three steals, while freshman Landon Coulter had a solid all-around game with six points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals in the win over Travis.
AUSTIN MCCALLUM KNIGHTS 73, TAYLOR DUCKS 51
Against a very strong Austin McCallum High School team, the Ducks held their own for the first three quarters on the road Dec. 29 against the Knights but were defeated 73-51.
Despite the loss, Taylor got a big game from Richardson as the senior standout had a team-high 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four blocked shots and one steal.
Taylor Head Coach Stephen Gibson and his squad will be back to 4A-District 22 action Friday night as the Ducks travel to take on the Buffaloes of Giddings High School.
