“Your 95th birthday is an extraordinary accomplishment,” is printed on the inside of a Hallmark card. To many people, Ernest Rector is an extraordinary person, and, according to Hallmark, reaching age 95 helps their argument.
Rector recently celebrated his 95th birthday, and was joined by family and friends at St. James Episcopal Church in Taylor. Rector’s youngest son, Robert, along with his wife and daughter Christine and Z’niyah, made the trip to Taylor for the celebration.
Also in attendance was David Hall, who built a sign displaying Rector’s age, 95, decorated in lights. Hall was responsible for building a similar sign last year for Rector’s 94th birthday.
Rector serves as a member of the Friends of the Moody Museum.
He is a veteran who was discharged from the army just prior to the Korean War. He lived in San Francisco as these soldiers returned to the United States.
