Local charities give 244% of goal

The Greater Taylor Foundation announced in a press release that 13 local charities were awarded $24,400 at a breakfast hosted by the nonprofit at Holiday Inn and Suites Tuesday, Dec. 12.

The awards are associated with the Give Taylor campaign, a partnership with the global Giving Tuesday movement which encouraged people around the world to give back where they live.

“The Greater Taylor Foundation is so excited to bring this annual online giving campaign to our community,” Board chair Diana Phillips said. “We feel it has unlimited potential to increase support for our local nonprofits who work so hard to provide much needed services for individuals and families across our community.”

The 2023 Greater Taylor Foundation goal for Give Taylor was $10,000 and the local nonprofit community raised $19,400, the press release said.

A match from Faykus Financial of $5,000 increased the total to $24,400, according to GTF officials. The Foundation reported 86 donors in the campaign with an average gift of $283.72.

Nonprofits receiving special recognition for their outstanding efforts this year were Shepherd’s Heart, receiving the most dollars raised with $9,401.55, the Friends of the Moody Museum, receiving the second highest dollars raised with $3,590.82 and Texas Critter Crusaders with $2,272.41 for the third most dollars raised.

Boys & Girls Club of East Willamson County was recognized for the most donors with 18, and Friends of the Moody Museum for the highest average donations to the campaign with a giving average of $713.75.

The Foundation also recognized Leslie Hunt, committee chair for Give Taylor, for her outstanding leadership.

According to Phillips, 24 local nonprofits participated in the campaign and 13 received money from donors and constituents.

GTF is a community foundation whose purpose is to serve the needs and philanthropic aims of donors who wish to better their community, now and in the future, the press release said.

It added that the Foundation provides donors with flexible, efficient, and tax-effective ways to ensure their charitable giving achieves the greatest possible impact.
