WILLIAMSON COUNTY — Williamson County government employees worked together this holiday season in an effort to help residents within the county who were in need of a meal.
The employee holiday food drive resulted in donations of 1,551 pounds of food for local families.
This is the first-year county employees have participated in a food drive in this manner.
Collection bins were placed in several county buildings to collect canned goods, rice, pasta, cereal, dried milk and other non-perishable items.
“We had a great response from county employees. I was super proud that everybody came together as quickly as they did,” said Kelley Hernandez, executive assistant for Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles.
The donations were delivered to Round Rock Serving Center, Hill Country Food Pantry, Hutto Resource Center and Caring Place to be given out to families.
Hernandez said the goal for next year is to collect one ton, or 449 more pounds of food donations than this year.
“Due to the amazing response from county employees, we think we can top ourselves next year,” Hernandez said.
Employees donated food items from Nov. 9 to Dec. 1.
