MANOR — The Taylor High School girls varsity basketball team improved its 4A-District 22 record to 2-0 as the Lady Ducks went on the road Dec. 15 and cruised to a 65-21 victory against Manor New Tech High School.
In a game dominated from start to finish by the Lady Ducks by Head Coach Lawrence Bailey’s squad, Taylor got off to a fast start to take a 34-14 lead at halftime and continued its strong play in the second half as the team defense was very strong throughout the night.
Taylor was led on the night by the duo of sophomore Madyson Mitchell and senior Asia Zachary. Mitchell had a team-high 17 points on 8- of-13 shooting with five rebounds and two assists, while Zachary also scored in double figures with 13 points on 6- of-12 shooting, five steals and four rebounds in the lopsided win over New Tech.
Other notable scorers on the night included junior Kionayh Rivers with seven points, junior Zakaya Frederick with six points, sophomore Aubriana Alderete with six points, senior Mia Duncan with five points and junior Sophia Fisher with five points.
After the Lady Ducks play host Dec. 19 to district rival La Grange High School, Taylor (8-7 overall record) is scheduled to next play Thursday, Dec. 28 at home versus Burton High School, Dec. 30 hosting Lampasas High School and return to district play Jan. 5 on the road against Giddings High School.
