Newsroom opened to residents

Residents are invited to come to the Taylor Press for the newspaper’s holiday open house to celebrate the holiday season.

The party will take place Wednesday, Dec. 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Taylor Press office, 211 W. Third St.

Suzanne Stevens, digital director for Granite Media Partners and party host, said building a strong sense of community is the organizers’ goal for the party.

“The open house is a perfect place to have conversations we may not have had otherwise,” Stevens said. “We get a chance to talk to the people we write for, I think we should do it often.” Food and prizes will be provided throughout the night. Visitors can take pictures with Santa and drink hot chocolate when they come.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a toy to donate to the annual Bill Pickett Educational Foundation Operation Christmas Toy Drive. The Taylor Press is a drop off location.

The toy drive is expected to benefit roughly 500 children and teenagers this year.

In addition, Taylor Press staff will be present at the event to meet attendees and share enjoyment of the festivities.

Stevens said feedback is welcome at the event since it gives suggestions that may not have been thought about otherwise.

“You’d be surprised how quickly conversations can turn into stories ... So, we do have our ulterior motives,” Stevens said. “But mostly it’s just a thank you or better yet, nice to meet you and of course we hope to see you there.”
