LEANDER — The Taylor High School boys varsity basketball team had its two-game win streak snapped Tuesday, Dec. 12 as the Ducks were defeated 70-38 in a non-district game on the road against the Lions of Leander High School.

The Ducks kept pace with the 5A Lions throughout the first quarter and stayed within striking distance in the second quarter. However, Taylor’s offense struggled to get much going in the second half as Leander pulled away for a 32-point victory at home.

In the loss for the Ducks, they were led by junior Eli Laurence who had a teamhigh 18 points on a trio of three-pointers made, four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. Taylor senior Treos Richardson also scored in double figures against Leander with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.

The Ducks continue to build their team chemistry prior to district play under Taylor Head Coach Stephen Gibson with a roster that has a lot of inexperience at the varsity level prior to the start of the 2023-24 regular season.

After Taylor returns home Friday evening versus Austin St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, the Ducks will be set to start 4A-District 22 play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the district home opener against the Leopards of La Grange High School.
