GRANGER — The Granger High School girls varsity basketball team started 2A-District 27 play on the highest note Tuesday, Dec. 12 at home as the Lady Lions, under Head Coach Kendall Cotten, won a 46-40 overtime thriller versus the Lady Eagles of Hearne High School.

As a team, the Lady Lions used tight defense throughout the night and were able to knock down some timely shots from behind the arc to pick up their fifth win of the 2023-24 season.

Granger was led by senior Montana Moore who had a team-high 19 points, six rebounds, four steals, three assists and one blocked shot. Lady Lions junior Sofia Bernal had a hot hand from behind the arc as she finished with nine points on a trio of three-pointers, eight rebounds, six steals and one assist.

The Lady Lions got their final points of the night as senior Destiny Cotten knocked down a clutch threepointer in overtime to make it a sixpoint game.

Granger was scheduled to start 2A-District 2 on the road Friday night against the Lady Eagles of Milano High School. This will be a very tough district for Granger that includes Hearne, Milano, Thrall High School, Thorndale High School, Bartlett High School and Holland High School. The Lady Lions will be back at home Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. to host the Tigerettes of Thrall.
