Helping hands

GOOD NEWS

BY ISABELLA TEBEAU

“Big shout out to my childhood super hero Officer Morehouse. Officer Morehouse impacted me as a child, and has always been my best friend since then. I was walking around Walmart and noticed him across the aisles and decided to catch up since we haven’t talked in a while, and me being nosey, I said ‘what are you doing in here?’ He said buying some fuses for a car I pulled over because his light was out, but the person he stopped seemed like they had other issues going on.

So, Officer Morehouse did a good deed and decided to buy some at our local Walmart to help the person he pulled over. I am posting this because this man deserves to be recognized for everything he does for our community and local kids when he was patroling at the school, thank you for all you do Officer Morehouse.”

“I witnessed a wonderful thing. I was shopping and saw that one of the kiosk operators was watching a bedraggled woman who had worn ratty clothes. The woman was looking closely at the many bracelets and buckles on display. I thought for a second that the shopkeeper would ask her to leave or stand protectively between her and the jewelry case or something. Instead said something to the woman and pointed at one of the bracelets, and the woman shook her head yes. The kiosk woman took the bracelet, ripped the tag off and put it on the woman's wrist.

There are no words to describe the look of unexpected joy on the woman's face. They hugged, and the bedraggled woman walked off smiling. I caught the woman's eye and stupidly gave her a thumbsup. Yeah. I know. She awkwardly gave me a thumbs-up back. But you know, those who spread joy in whatever way they may are the real gifts of the season. Even if all they receive for their giving is an awkward thumbs up from a stranger.”

“Good news, went to S.P.J.S.T. nursing home this morning to get a name from the tree. They were all gone. Thank you Taylor people. Left a donation for a resident to go shopping.”
