Adelfa Ana Galban Davis

Adelfa Ana Galban Davis, 78, of Rockdale, passed away Nov. 19, 2023, in Temple.

She was born Nov. 5, 1945, in Thorndale, to Placido II and Marguerite Galban. Mr. Galban retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad and Mrs. Galban was a nurse, working in all the surrounding hospitals and nursing homes in the counties until her retirement.

Adelfa graduated from Thorndale High School in 1964. She continued her education by attending several years at Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio. She soon moved to San Jose, California, becoming very active, working and marching with Caesar Chavez to improve the working and living conditions of the farm workers and migrant laborers.

Aldelfa eventually returned to Texas to pursue her education and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980, with a degree in psychology. She returned to school and received her doctorate degree in Theology.

Adelfa served as a pastor in her own church for more than 30 years, plus opened the New Life in Christ Christian school in Rockdale, and served as owner and manager for over 15 years.

Adelfa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William E. Davis; five brothers, Placido III, Lawrence, Ferdinand, Timothy and Wayne.

She is survived by sisters, Martha Elizabeth “Liz” (Melvin) Guidry and Phyllis “Phyll” (Jack) Green; and brother, Albert “Buddy” (Hope) Galban; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A special thank you to Amedysis Hospice and Western Hills Rehabilitation staff for their tremendous care and compassion.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sabrina N. Young at Young’s Daughters Funeral Home and Bereavement Center.
