STAFF REPORTS [email protected]

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration committee is putting together plans for the upcoming march and celebration, scheduled for Monday, Jan. 15.

Similar to previous years, the event will begin at the Dickey-Givens Community Center in Fannie Robinson Park. The march will go through south Taylor and over the bridge on Main Street, ending in Heritage Square in downtown Taylor.

The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. at the Heritage Square Amphitheater.

In addition to the march and celebration, art and essay contests will be added to the celebration.

The art contest is for children ages 4 to 18, and they are encouraged to create a piece of art with the theme, “What does freedom mean to you?”

Art contests submissions should be original paintings, drawings, sculptures, mixed media or digital art.

For the essay contest, entries must be original content and all sources must be cited.

All entries must include their full name, grade, school, parent/ guardians’ name and contact information.

The deadline for both contests is Thursday, Jan. 4. Submissions can be turned in at Taylor City Hall.
