Lions football all-district aplenty

GRANGER — Granger High School varsity football Head Coach Stephen Brosch announced over the weekend 2A-2 District 13 all-district selections for the Lions after this team finished 2023 with a 10-3 record and regional semifinals berth.

Superlative all-district awards for the Lions were senior linebacker Chase Edwards as Defensive Most Valuable Player, junior Jose Valverde as Place Kicker of the Year and sophomore Grayson Smith as Offensive Lineman of the Year.

First-team all-district selections on offense for Granger were Edwards at quarterback, senior offensive lineman Michael Selucky, senior wide receiver Lucas Matta, senior tight end Thomas Youngblood, senior wide receiver Isaac Lizardo and junior offensive lineman Marcus Martinez. On defense, first-team award winners include senior cornerback Trae Herrera, junior linebacker Jett Jolly, Selucky at defensive line, Youngblood at linebacker, Lizardo at safety and Martinez at defensive line.

Second-team picks for the Lions on offense had senior running back Jayven Diaz, junior offensive lineman Luke Stefek, sophomore offensive lineman Chase Selucky, Herrera at wide receiver and Jolly at both running back and tight end. The Lions also had second-team defense selections with Matta at cornerback, Valverde at safety, sophomore linebacker Stephen Rogers, sophomore safety Joseph Sifuentes and sophomore linebacker Kael Jackson.

Granger sophomore Keegan Cotten was also named an all-district honorable mention for both the offensive line and defensive line.

Academic all-district selections were senior lineman Victor Godinez, senior linebacker Fernando Botello, Matta, Edwards, Lizardo and Valverde.
