Council to discuss charter changes

During its meeting Thursday, the Taylor City Council will receive an update on the charter petition.

According to the city, the charter petition has been validated by Williamson County and staff.

The petition calls for each council member and the mayor to receive a $125 stipend per meeting, requires a minimum of 72 hours between meetings, designates the At-large position as mayor and requires all City Council meetings to be held within Taylor city limits.

While the council directed staff to move forward with forming a charter committee during its Nov. 16 regular meeting, the city said it will recommend council members to hold off on assembling the charter committee.

According to the council agenda packet, “There are several variables that will make it difficult for a charter committee to review charter areas without knowing if the charter petition items pass in May 2024.”

The city said it will recommend the council use the Jan. 11 meeting to review the ordinance to call for the election in May 2024 that will have the charter amendments on the ballot.

In other business, city leaders will:

• Receive a presentation from Taylor Parks and Recreation Director Tyler Bybee on the Fitness Park concept plan at Memorial Field and approve the purchase of commercial equipment.

• Receive an update on the city’s winter preparedness from Taylor Fire Chief Daniel Baum.

• Consider an amendment to the zoning ordinance of approximately 113 acres of land located to the west of the Taylor Municipal Airport. It would change the zoning from Single Family Residential to Employment Center Planned Development. It is referred to as Silicon Vistas Planned Development.

• Consider appointment or appointments to the Zoning Board of Adjustment vacant alternate seat or seats.

• Consider a task order with HDR Engineering for the Lead Service Line Inventory Development Support.

The council will conduct a closed executive session to discuss the Taylor Station ETJ petition, FM 973 MUD and for a city manager evaluation.

Taylor City Council regularly meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 400 Porter St. in Taylor. Agendas and live broadcasts are available at http://www.taylortx. gov.
