GRANGER — The Granger High School girls varsity basketball team under Head Coach Kendall Cotten got back into the win column Tuesday, Dec. 5 as the Lady Lions handled business at home with a 48-24 victory over the Lady Bearcats of Moody High School.
The Lady Lions played gritty team defense throughout the night to keep the Lady Bearcats in check as Granger cruised to pick up its third victory of the 2023-24 regular season. Granger was led Tuesday by a standout shooting effort from junior Sofia Bernal as she finished with a team-high 15 points on four made threepointers, eight rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Senior guard Montana Moore also made plays all over the court as she had eight points, seven steals, five rebounds and three assists for the Lady Lions. Fellow senior Clarissa Miller added eight points to go along with five rebounds and four steals, while senior Destiny Cotten finished with five points and two assists against Moody.
This was a much-needed victory for the Lady Lions to get back on track as the squad was on an eight-game losing streak before Tuesday night. However, Granger has gotten a lot of valuable experience during previous tournament games that should prepare the Lady Lions for a tough upcoming district schedule.
After Granger finishes up over the weekend at the Bruceville-Eddy Tournament, the Lady Lions will return home Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 6:15 p.m. to host the Lady Eagles of Hearne High School in the 2A-District 27 opener for both teams.
