The Taylor High School girls varsity basketball team put in complete team effort Tuesday as the Lady Ducks notched a gritty 48-33 victory at home against the Lady Wolves of Pflugerville Weiss High School.

“It was a scrappy battle,” said Taylor Head Coach Lawrence Bailey.

“Proud of our ladies for getting over the hump.

We came close so many times this season.”

This was a defensive battle between the Lady Ducks and Lady Wolves for most of the night as Taylor led Weiss 15-9 after the first quarter, 26-17 by halftime and pulled away later in the second half en route to a 15-point win.

As a team, this Taylor squad played tough defense all night and forced Weiss to commit 32 turnovers.

The Lady Ducks did not allow the Lady Wolves to score over double-digit points in three of four quarters.

Taylor sophomore Madyson Mitchell helped lead the way with a double-double effort of 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals while senior Asia Zachary also had 16 points, seven rebounds and six steals.

Fellow senior Ansley Reed also had a solid game with eight points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds.

The Lady Ducks entered this weekend’s Taylor Tournament with a 5-5 overall record.

Taylor will remain on its home floor Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. as the Lady Ducks will host Austin Achieve High School for the 4A-District 22 opener on Teacher Night and will then travel Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. to take on Manor New Tech High School.
