MOODY — The Granger High School boys varsity basketball team played over the weekend at the Moody Tournament and the Lions picked up two victories against Waco Vanguard College Preparatory School and Jewett Leon High School.
In the 45-42 victory Thursday over Vanguard, the Lions were able to maintain a slight lead throughout over the Vikings and held on down the stretch to secure the win.
In addition to a solid game from senior Trae Herrera for Granger, junior Isaac Campos scored in double figures with 12 points and two rebounds.
Lions sophomore Caleb Tucker knocked down a trio of threepointers and finished with nine points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Granger also had its way with the Cougars of Leon as the Lions cruised to a 51-40 victory as Herrera led the way with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Tucker also scored in double figures with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Campos had eight points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists.
Under Granger Head Coach Chaston Kubacak, the Lions (3-2 overall record) are scheduled Dec. 5 to host Snook High School and then will compete Dec. 7-9 at the Florence Tournament against other small-school teams from the area.
