HUTTO — The Hutto High School girls varsity basketball team under Head Coach Samantha Guerrero returned home Friday, Dec. 1 and fell 50-34 to Round Rock Stony Point High School.

In the first quarter, the Lady Hippos played to a tight 8- 4 deficit to the Lady Tigers and were down just 26-20 at halftime. Hutto let this one get away down the stretch of the second half as the Lady Hippos were outscored 10-6 in the third quarter and 14-8 in the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, Hutto again was led on the night in scoring by senior Alyssa Batton with a team-high 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Lady Hippos senior Avery Hamby had four points and one assist, while junior Saniyah McCallister added three points and had one steal on defense.

The Lady Hippos had trouble stopping the output of Lady Tigers junior Leann Bellow as she had a game-high 19 points and seven steals, while the duo of junior Alexis Vega and sophomore Shyla Hancock added eight points apiece in the Stony Point victory.

However, the Lady Hippos played inspired team defense for much of the game and held the Lady Tigers to just 2-of-9 shooting from behind the arc.

The Lady Hippos (6-11 overall record) are scheduled Dec. 5 to host Leander Glenn High School and will open 6A-District 12 play Friday night at home versus Midway High School.
