Five girls make All-Austin Metro volleyball

AUSTIN — Five outstanding area volleyball players were selected to the 2023 All-Austin Metro 4A-1A first and second teams with two from Taylor High School and three more from nearby Thrall High School.

Melaina Grissom, first-team senior, Thrall Grissom was District 26-2A’s Most Valuable Player and helped lead the Tigerettes to a 31-8 overall record and a district championship. She was instrumental in Thrall reaching the Class 2A-Region IV finals.

Hannah Wamble, first-team senior, Taylor The District 22-4A Offensive Player of the Year helped the Lady Ducks to their best season in school history. Taylor finished with a district championship, an all-time high 30 wins and reached the second round of the playoffs. Wamble finished with 403 kills and led all Austin area 1A to 5A players with 119 aces.

Dezi Lopez, secondteam senior, Thrall The District 26-2A co-Defensive Most Valuable Player recipient, Lopez helped the Tigerettes win a district championship and reach the regional finals as this Thrall team’s standout libero.

Haley Harms, secondteam junior, Taylor A first-team All-District 22-4A selection, Harms was an instrumental part of the best season in Taylor volleyball history. She finished her junior season with 337 kills and was the second-leading hitter on the Lady Ducks.

Brynn Leschber, second- team sophomore, Thrall Leschber was a first-team All-District 26-2A selection who helped the Tigerettes win a district championship and reach the regional finals.
