The Taylor High School girls varsity basketball team halted a three-game losing streak Friday, Nov. 17 as the Lady Ducks rolled to a 59-32 victory at home over Jarrell High School.

Although the Lady Ducks got off to a slow start and trailed the Lady Cougars 9-7 after the first quarter, this Taylor squad under Head Coach Lawrence Bailey really got going after that and maintained a 27-17 lead at halftime.

The stellar defense by Taylor and great ball movement on offense continued for the Lady Ducks in the third quarter as the Lady Ducks went up 40-24 and handled business down the stretch of the game, not allowing the Lady Cougars to score more than nine points in any quarter.

Taylor was again led by senior Asia Zachary, who had a game-high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting with eight rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Lady Ducks sophomore Madyson Mitchell returned from a twogame absence and had a solid all-around contest with 13 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Taylor also got a double-digit scoring effort on the night against Jarrell by Lady Ducks junior Sophia Fisher with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Fellow junior Kionayh Rivers was dominant defensively for Taylor with six points, a team-high 10 rebounds, three blocked shots, two assists and one steal.

Following the Lady Ducks’ road game Monday against Stony Point High School in Round Rock, Taylor (2-3 overall record) returned to home Tuesday to host Thrall High School.
