Local Citizens Academy open for applications

Residents with the desire to learn more about the Williamson County Constable Precinct 4’s office can sign up for hands-on training.

The Williamson County Precinct 4 Constable is Paul Leal.

The office is hosting its second Constable Citizens Academy, which is designed to educate locals about all aspects of the department.

Classes will take place every Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. from Thursday, Jan. 25 until Thursday, April 4.

Session topics include the history of the Constable’s office, civil process, writ of execution, criminal offenses, environmental law enforcement, use of force, officer safety, self aid and buddy aid, handcuffing techniques, traffic stops, low light encounters, response to an active shooter and a mock trial with the Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace.

Potential Citizen Academy participants can find the application by either looking at the Constable’s office Facebook or by requesting one by emailing at [email protected].

The deadline to apply is Friday, Jan. 12. Applicants must be 21 years old, a Precinct 4 resident and without prior felony convictions.

The Citizen Academy will be limited to 25 participants, which are determined on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no cost to the program.

While it is free to attend, participants are expected to purchase an academy polo shirt that costs about $30.

The Constable’s office encourages people looking for more information to call 512-352- 4181 or email Lt. Mike Pendley at [email protected].
