GIVING THANKS Local church feeds the community

The members of Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church started their Thanksgiving early by providing meals to the community.

On Saturday, Nov. 18, church members prepared hot meals ready for pickup at the church. Families could drive-thru or walk up and receive a meal no questions asked. The only thing they needed was to provide their name, address, number and tray count.

“Our goal in the Taylor community, as a Christian entity is to provide knowledge of God through being accessible to the community through in-reach and outreach events,” said First Lady Carol Spence. “(Saturday’s event) accomplished this by inviting the community to the church to receive a hot meal, where some may not be able to receive.”

With the help of congregation members and volunteers including the mayor, council members, city staff, city managers, police officers and firefighters, over 700 people were served. “We, at Zion want to let you know, here at the Chapel, we are here to refuel you for your journey,” Spence said.
