SALADO — The Taylor High School girls varsity basketball had an upset bid on its mind Tuesday, Nov. 7 on the road against the No. 13 ranked team in 4A with Salado High School.
In a back-and-forth affair throughout the evening, the Lady Ducks came up just short with a gritty 40-33 loss in which the Lady Eagles pulled away down the stretch.
Although the shots were not falling as much as they would have liked on offense, the Lady Ducks played some great team defense to keep Taylor within striking distance of Salado. Taylor was led on the night by senior Asia Zachary, who scored in double figures with a teamhigh 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting, seven rebounds and four steals.
The Lady Ducks also got a solid showing from sophomore Madyson Mitchell, who had nine points, seven rebounds, a team-high five assists and three assists in the close loss at Salado. Taylor junior Sofia Fisher had four points and five rebounds, while fellow junior Molli Kennick added three points after she knocked down her only attempt from behind the arc.
Under Head Coach Lawrence Bailey, the Lady Ducks (1-1 overall record) will look to bounce back with road games Nov. 10 at Academy High School and Nov. 14 at Killeen Chaparral High School. Taylor will next return to its home gymnasium Nov. 17 as the Lady Ducks host Jarrell High School in a non-district game.
