HIPPO BITES Little bits of big news

EDIE ZUVANICH Special to the Press

Water restrictions lowered

HUTTO — All three utilities providing water to residents of Hutto have now decreased the drought contingencies from the Stage 3 restrictions that had been in effect throughout summer.

“We’ve been closely watching our water usage and production and we feel like we’re in a position to be able to release and relax from Stage 3 down to Stage 2, so that allows watering twice a week on your designated days,” City Manager James Earp announced at a Nov. 2 City Council meeting.

Residents who are served by city of Hutto water utilities now have the following mandatory regulations. Even numbered residential addresses water outdoors on Sundays and Thursdays. Odd numbers water on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

Watering must be done before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m. on designated days. This applies only to watering using automated systems or sprinklers attached to hoses. Outdoor watering by a hand-held hose or drip irrigation system is allowed any day or time.

Fountains and decorative water features still cannot be operated. Water cannot be used to wash buildings, driveways or sidewalks. Vehicle washing is allowed during a customers’ designated watering day and time.

“Whenever we make a change, we’re required to stay in that stage for 30 days. So, if we’re going to relax to Stage 1 or even drop out of observation altogether, that announcement wouldn’t come until December potentially,” Earp added.

Customers of Jonah Water District are under Stage 1 voluntary restrictions as of Oct.

12. Residents are asked to limit watering to Sundays and Thursdays for even addresses, Saturdays and Wednesdays for odd addresses. For more information, visit jonahwater.com.

Manville Water Supply moved to Stage 2 on Oct. 13.

Manville residential customers can water on Wednesday and Saturday for odd addresses, Thursday and Sunday for even addresses. For more details visit manvillewsc.org.

Businesses collaborate for city gift card

Gift cards have become a go-to option for holiday shopping, often used for co-workers, to avoid holiday shopping crowds or as stocking stuffers.

Now the city of Hutto is offering its own gift card: the Yiftee digital card, which will be available year-round through huttotx. gov.

“These are digital gift cards that you can buy through the city’s website that are good at the small businesses that have signed up to participate. So those dollars that you put on a gift card and maybe give as a gift can be used at those specific locations,” Earp said.

He said there are about 15 businesses that have signed up for the program as of Nov. 2.
