GRANGER — The Granger High School girls varsity basketball team picked up its first victory Nov. 11 of the 2023-24 regular-season as the Lady Lions cruised to a 45-22 win at home versus Axtell High School.

The Lady Lions were able to get out to a sizable lead in the first half and did not look back from there against the Lady Longhorns as the team played superb defense as a unit throughout. Granger was led Saturday afternoon by senior Montana Moore, who had a gamehigh 17 points to go along with seven steals and three assists.

Lady Lions sophomore Alexi Montagnino also scored in double figures with 11 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one assist. Granger senior Clarissa Miller also contributed with a solid all-around game to the victory with eight points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Under Head Coach Kendall Cotten, Granger now has a 1-2 overall record very early in the season and will look to string some more victories together. After the Lady Lions play at home Tuesday night against Chilton High School, Granger will have another home game Saturday hosting Mart High School. The Lady Lions will also have a road game Nov. 20 at Lexington High School and return home Nov. 21 to host Bruceville-Eddy High School.
