GRANGER — The Granger High School varsity volleyball team had several players named to the 2A-District 26 all-district team this week with athletes from Granger, Thrall High School, Thorndale High School, Holland High School and Bartlett High School.
The highest honor for Granger was given to senior standout Tessa Burton, who was named as the Co-Setter of the Year alongside junior Hadley Madors of Thorndale.
Named as first-team all-district selections for the Lady Lions were senior Jaila Rollie and fellow senior Clarissa Miller, while junior Marissa Hall and sophomore Krista Hutka were named as second-team alldistrict winners. As for honorable mentions, the duo of senior Montana Moore and junior Sofia Bernal were recognized on the all-district team.
Named as all-district academic selections were Burton, Miller, Moore, Hall, Hutka, senior Destiny Cotten and junior Kelsey Dittrich.
Granger finished with a 16-18 overall record and a 4-4 mark in district play under Head Coach Margie Burton and returned to the playoffs. Despite a resilient effort, the Lady Lions were beaten in three sets Oct. 30 by Milano High School in the 2A bi-district round of the postseason. This team will be back with plenty of returning players in 2024 and will again look to make another push towards the playoffs.
