ACADEMY — The Taylor High School girls varsity basketball team came up just short for a second straight game last Friday as the Lady Ducks were edged 37-29 on the road by a very good Academy High School squad.
“It’s been rough losing two games in a row that we should have won but we don’t have our chemistry yet,” Taylor Head Coach Lawrence Bailey said. “We still haven’t had the full team healthy yet.”
In yet another close loss, the Lady Ducks got a double-double effort from senior Asia Zachary with a team-high 14 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, two blocked shots and two assists against the Lady Bumblebees. Also scoring for Taylor was junior Sophia Fisher with six points and four steals, junior Molli Kennick with six points on two shots made from behind the arc and senior Ansley Reed with three points, six rebounds and two assists.
It will be very exciting to see what this Lady Ducks team is capable of under Bailey once this talented roster is healthy and on the same page going forward. The team defense has played outstanding through three games but the offense will need to find its rhythm over time.
After the Lady Ducks play on the road Tuesday night against another ranked team with Killeen Chaparral High School, Taylor will be back home Friday at 6:30 p.m. to host Jarrell High School.
