Charter committee tops agenda

A three-year discussion could finally come before the Taylor City Council for a vote.

On Thursday, Nov. 16, the Council will consider starting a charter committee and determine how to appoint members.

The most recent charter was amended in November 2020 by the approval of three amendments. The city is past the twoyear mark for calling for a charter amendments election, and a committee could be formed to study and make recommendations for new amendments.

Currently, city staff has identified amendments to be discussed due to changes in state law. A council-appointed committee could review these items from January through July and make a recommendation to the Council in early July.

If accepted by the Council, the recommendations could be put on the November 2024 election ballot.

To start the process, Council has to appoint committee members and provide what amendments to consider.

In the past, each Council member appointed two members each and the mayor appointed three. If approved, Council will have to appoint members by Dec. 7 or Dec. 14.

Other agenda items include:

• Consider approving award for the request for qualifications for programing, planning, design and construction administration for the Doris Roznovak Aquatic Center reconstruction project.

• Consider Resolution R23-38 casting votes for Williamson Central Appraisal District

• Consideration and possible action on bid award for the construction of the FM 619 waterline relocation and airport lift station improvements projects.

The Taylor City Council regularly meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 400 Porter St. in Taylor. Agendas and live broadcasts are available at http://www.taylortx.gov.
