Ashlyn Jarosek drove in three runs and Aubrie Henderson allowed one run on four hits to give the Thrall Tigerettes (5-5 overall, 1-0 District 27-2A) a 7-1 win over the Granger Lady Lions (2-1, 0-1) in both teams’ district opener.
Thrall wasted little time in grabbing the momentum, pushing three runs across in the bottom half of the first inning. Jarosek’s sacrifice fly scored Henderson and moved Addison Leschber, who walked, to third, to get things started. Raelynn Johnson was able to reach on a dropped third strike to put runners at the corners with two out and Bernice Gonzalez’s single to center scored both runners for a 3-0 Thrall lead.
Granger finally got on the board in the top half of the fourth. Montana Moore singled to center to lead off the inning for the Lady Lions. Moore scored on a double by Amayah Simien to cut the Thrall lead to 1-0.
The Tigerettes responded to Granger’s score with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. All four runs came with two outs. Karli Quintanilla hit a two-out double to get things going for the Tigerettes and she came around to score on an error that put Henderson at third. Dezi Lopes’s line-drive single to center made the score 5-1. Leschber followed with a single to center and Jarosek roped a double to center to clear the bases.
Granger went quietly over the final three innings as the Tigerettes picked up the win. Quintanilla led Thrall with three hits on the night, including a pair of doubles. Henderson, meanwhile, ran her season record to 5-3. Her seven strikeouts brought her season total to 50 and she has lowered her earned run average to 3.443.
Thrall played in the Taylor tournament over the weekend, starting off against Gateway Prep.
