Mark Thomas retired from his position as president and CEO of the Taylor Economic Development Corporation Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Thomas had been in economic development leadership for over 30 years serving in Midland, Waco and Georgetown before arriving in Taylor.
“It has been an absolute honor to serve the citizens, the TEDC board, Taylor City Council, Williamson County, Taylor ISD and the Taylor Chamber of Commerce,” Thomas said. “I am truly thankful for all the support I have received and for the opportunity to work in Taylor for the betterment of the community.”
A press release from TEDC said Thomas brought a new standard of professionalism, energy and experience as its leader and that the TEDC is in a much stronger financial position today than it was in 2016.
The press release said in seven years, including the two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization has leveraged its assets in a measured way that has attracted investment and better wage jobs to Taylor.
The release said this new financial strength has allowed targeted investment in needed water and wastewater infrastructure as well as roads. It added that it will be several more years before his true value and impact on the city of Taylor will be fully measured.
His leadership has produced dozens of projects and many billions of dollars in capital investment in Taylor, it said. Companies such as Samsung, Valero, Noren Products, Summit Cabinets, St. Patrick’s and Hart Components now have locations in Taylor.
“I would like to especially like to thank Regina Carlson, who has been an invaluable team member at TEDC and friend over the last seven years,” Thomas said.
After retiring his role, Thomas said he plans to stay active in the community and region working in commercial/ industrial real estate and economic development consulting.
“My goal is to continue to serve and help where I can, using my knowledge and experience from the past 30 years,” Thomas said.
