Taylor to host Christmas Parade Dec. 2

The city of Taylor’s Main Street Program announced plans to host a Christmas Parade Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Christmas Parade on Main Street will begin at 6 p.m. and will be immediately followed by a tree-lighting ceremony at Heritage Square, according to a press release from the city of Taylor. The ceremony is sponsored by the Taylor Parks and Recreation department.

The lighted parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Main Street. Parade registration is open now and will continue until 5 p.m. Nov. 24.

All Taylor residents, community organizations and business owners are welcome to participate, but must register in advance, the city’s press release said. There will be no on-site registration on the day of the event.

The ceremony will include live music, carols and arts and crafts. There will also be an opportunity to visit and take pictures with Santa.

The celebration is free and open to the public.

It is set to be the city’s first Christmas parade since tensions last year between the Taylor Area Ministerial Alliance and LGBTQ groups led the city to host a second parade on the same day as the annual Christmas Parade of Lights.

This year, the city will organize and host the event.

Residents can fill out a registration form online or download a printable form on the city’s website at www. taylortx.gov/960/ Christmas-Parade.

The parade registration form said that the parade committee reserves the right to refuse any float, unit or individual.

Additionally, the form said that each entry “must be appropriate for all ages.” It asks participants to refrain from including toy guns or weapons, alcohol, sexually explicit material, obscene language and tobacco use.
