Election day this week

Early voting ended Friday, Nov. 3, and the last chance for residents to have their votes counted for the upcoming election is Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Taylor City Hall for individuals to fill out a ballot on the 14 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution.

Highlights of potential amendments to the state constitution include a proposition that involves protecting landowners’ right to farm, a proposition that would prohibit Texas from instituting a wealth tax and a proposition that essentially puts the property tax cut into action.

Other propositions would establish new funds if approved by voters, such as the Texas University Fund, the Texas Water Fund, the Texas Energy Fund, the Broadband Infrastructure Fund and the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund.

Additionally, a nearly $900 million Williamson County bond package will be on the table for voters to decide on.

Voters will decide on $825 million for road projects and $59 million for park projects. The ballot will list both figures as individual propositions.

Approval of the roads bond would allow the court to sell bonds for roads, highways and bridges. Some of the potential projects listed in the proposition would affect Taylor, such as projects on Chandler Road, East Wilco Highway and Corridor A-2.

If the parks bond passes, the court can sell bonds for park and recreational purposes, pedestrian trails and bike trails. One specifically listed Taylor project is putting a cover on the west side of the Expo Center.
