HUTTO — Eight senior players were honored Tuesday, Oct. 10 as the Hutto High School varsity volleyball team hosted Pflugerville Weiss High School in a 6A-District 12 match. For senior night, the eight Lady Hippo players honored before the match were Charlize Williams, Cori Babb, Hailey Bartley, Brittany Haberer, Carolina Vogelpohl, Andreani Garcia, Jayanna Davis and Jada Selvera.
Against a talented Lady Wolves squad, the Lady Hippos under first-year head coach Jessica Martinez battled hard at home but came up short in a four-set loss, 13-25, 20-25, 25-22 and were edged 21-25 in the fourth set.
Hutto junior Isabella Orton, an Auburn University commit, continued her superb 2023 season with a team-high 11 kills, 29 assists and 13 digs, while Bartley had double-digit kills with 10 of her own. Babb had nine kills, Williams added seven kills and junior Lyric Guillory also had seven kills and 11 serves received against Weiss.
Vogelpohl had 12 digs and 12 serves received, junior Macie Atkinson had 11 digs and 22 serves received and Haberer had a team-high 29 serves received and six digs.
Following Friday night’s home district match against Temple High School, the Lady Hippos (20-16 overall, 6-3 in district) will travel Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. to take on Midway High School up in Waco. Hutto will have its last district match of the season Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Copperas Cove High School in a match that will very likely determine playoff seeding as the Lady Hippos are currently No. 3 over the Lady Bulldawgs, who sit in fourth place.
