“We knew coming into this game that the challenge was going to be tough, especially when looking at some key pieces that were banged up and trying to bounce back from some injuries,” Granger head coach Stephen Brosch said after the game. “We took it on the chin tonight and will have to bounce back quickly because a Chilton team that is as good as it gets comes to town next Friday.”
The host Tigers got off to a fast start and did not look back as they went up 21-0 over the Lions early in the second quarter. Granger then had to face a 27-0 deficit at halftime, and could not get back in this game the rest of the way.
This was certainly a game that Bremond had circled on its schedule before the season started after what happened in Granger last season when the Lions won a 31-28 thriller over the Tigers.
Granger (5-2 overall, 1-1 in district) will return to The Lions’ Den next Friday at 7 p.m. to host Chilton High School squad. The Pirates, 7-0aand a top-5 team in 2A-2, put a 55-0 beatdown on Bartlett High School at home Friday night.
“Our process of striving for our 1-0 goal never changes,” Brosch said. “The biggest thing we will be focusing on is getting healthy and working on ourselves. The self-inflicted penalty area is one that has to be fixed and we are going to continue to make that a priority in everything we do.”
