LITTLE DUCKS WIN BIG

After claiming themselves as the “Best football team in Taylor, TX,” the Taylor Middle School eighth-grade football team had its biggest game of the year Thursday night and came from behind for a thrilling 26-21 victory at The Duck Pond over Lampasas Middle School.

“Words cannot describe how proud I am of my boys,” Taylor coach Rollan Espinoza said. “We’ve been looking forward to this game since last year. We came and we conquered. Such a great game and I’m a very proud coach. Get on the train or get run over because we’re coming.”

The Ducks eighth-grade football team looks to make a play on defense Thursday during Taylor’s 26-21 victory over the visiting Badgers.

After the Taylor seventh- grade squad won its game easily 30-0 over the Lampasas seventh graders, the much anticipated eighth-grade game to determine a district championship was on the line and it lived up to the hype. Taylor trailed by as much as 21-12 but kicked it into gear under coach Espinoza, Peter Reese, Jake Ness and Luz Camarillo. The turning point in the game was in the second half when the Badgers tried a quarterback sneak on fourth-and-short in Ducks’ territory, but the Taylor defense swarmed to the ball to stop the play short. The ball was stripped and Taylor recovered the fumble to take a 26-21 lead, which held the rest of the game.
