Following a tough 59-42 loss last Friday in a game that got away down the stretch versus San Antonio Davenport High School, the Taylor High School varsity football team will have its hands full yet again at 7:30 p.m. on Oct.
13 as the Ducks host a stout Lampasas High School squad.
Under first-year head coach Earven Flowers, the Taylor offense was mostly outstanding throughout the night as the Ducks scored 42 points in a game that was tied 35-35 at the end of the third quarter. Senior quarterback Joshua Mikulencak had another stellar game for the Ducks as he made countless plays with his arm and legs as he threw three of his four touchdown passes against the Wolves to senior wide receiver Jacob Mikulencak.
Unfortunately for the Ducks, turnovers and costly penalties were too much to overcome for this team as the defense also had a lot of trouble stopping Davenport.
“We have to block better up front,” Flowers said. “We have to do a better job at that, and a part of that is we have to do what we do well.
We have to find some schemes that fit our guys and kind of what we do, and stick to that and try to get better.”
Taylor junior running back Andrias Fisher, who has been stellar this season and scored on a long touchdown run against Davenport, was unfortunately lost for the year with a knee injury. Going forward, Fisher’s presence on the field will be severely missed as Taylor will need to establish an effective running game to complement its elite passing attack in order to come out on top against the Badgers of Lampasas.
The Taylor defense was able to force a few turnovers last week against the Wolves but the yardage given up and penalties really had a major effect on the result of the game.
Lampasas is now 5-1 on the season and is coming off a 35-14 victory at home last week vs.
Burnet High School in which the Badgers outscored the Bulldogs 28-7 in the second half.
The Ducks come into this week with a 3-3 overall record and a 0-1 mark in 4A-1 District 13.
