Lady Hippos get road sweep at Bryan

BRYAN — Hutto High School varsity volleyball continues to roll as the Lady Hippos picked up another key district victory on the road Tuesday night at Bryan High School. The Lady Hippos won in three straight sets over the Lady Vikings: 25-18, 25-11 and held on 25-21 to seal it.

Head coach Jessica Martinez and her squad came out and took care of business in Bryan. In the first set, it was back-and-forth from the start as the Lady Vikings came back from an 11-6 deficit to get within 16-14.

However, Hutto went on a 9-4 run to take the first set 25-18.

The Lady Hippos really flexed their muscle in the second set and went on an unbelieve run. Following a 5-2 lead early in the set for Bryan, Hutto went on a whopping 23-6 run to take the second set by a wide 25-11 margin to go up 2-0.

The third set really came down to the wire but Hutto locked in and got the job done on the road. Bryan got off to a 10-5 lead early in the set but Hutto was able to get within 14-13 and took the lead there. The Lady Vikings were able to get within 20-17 but that was as close as they got as Hutto took the third set 25-21 and completed the three-set sweep.

After Friday night’s district road match at Harker Heights High School, the Lady Hippos (19-15 overall record and 5-2 mark in District 12-6A) will return home at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 for a crucial match vs.

Pflugerville Weiss High School.
