GIDDINGS — The Taylor High School varsity volleyball team will be the No. 2 seed out of 4A-District 22 after the Lady Ducks were defeated by Giddings High School in the seeding game Friday night held at neutral site, Smithville High School.

Although the Lady Ducks lost in four sets, they are still 2023 codistrict champions with the Lady Buffaloes.

Taylor fell to Giddings 17-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 22-25 in the matchup.

First-year Head Coach Rylee Davis and her Lady Ducks also played on the road Tuesday, and beat Smithville in three sets to force Friday’s seeding game with Giddings. Taylor took care of business against Smithville with scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-23 to sweep the Lady Tigers.

Lady Ducks junior Haley Harms led the way in the win over Smithville with a matchhigh 13 kills and added five digs, while senior Hannah Wamble also had double-digit kills with 11 to go along with 15 digs and 12 serves received. Taylor senior Camryn Nunamaker had a team-high 17 assists and seven digs, while sophomore Makenna Watson had 13 digs and 21 serves received on the night against the Lady Tigers.

Taylor will head into the postseason with a 29-13 overall record and will play a Houston-area team from 4A-District 21 in the bi-district round of the playoffs early next week.
