Tigers host Hearne in playoff push
THRALL – The Thrall High School varsity football team was not playing around last week as the Tigers went on the road and put a 42-14 beatdown on rival Thorndale High School.
Tigers junior standout quarterback Chance Parker was again the leader of a Thrall offense that put on a show, especially in the second half against the Bulldogs. Parker did it all with his arm and legs as the Thorndale defense had no answer to stop Thrall.
Parker threw two touchdown passes to Thrall senior wide receiver Steven Walker and another to senior tight end Tyler Bonkowski, sophomore running back C.J. Kelm had a short rushing touchdown and Parker added two more scores on the ground in the rout of Thorndale.
Despite the Tigers allowing the Bulldogs to score a touchdown on the opening kickoff, Thrall did not allow Thorndale to get much of anything going throughout the night as the defense had an outstanding effort.
Thrall returns home Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. as the Tigers are set to host the Eagles of Hearne High School on senior night. Like Thorndale, Hearne has also struggled this year. The Eagles have scored just 88 points and are 1-7 on the season but their defense has actually played quite well.
The Tigers (6-2 overall, 3-1 in district) are still in contention for the No. 2 seed heading into the upcoming bi-district playoffs but need to take care of the business in front of them. Thrall, who should be heavily favored against Hearne, will then travel Nov. 3 to take on Schulenburg High School in the 2A-1 District 13 district finale and winning both games will lock them in as the second seed.
