Sweep keeps Lady Ducks at the top

Taylor High School varsity volleyball under first-year head coach Rylee Davis picked up another 4A-District 22 victory last Friday night at home versus Caldwell High School. The Lady Ducks swept the Lady Hornets in three straight sets 25-18, 25-12 and 25-20 to improve to 28-12 overall and atop the district standings at 10-1.

In their last district home game, the Lady Ducks took care of business as Taylor again got a lot of production from its duo of senior Hannah Wamble and junior Haley Harms. Wamble did it all for the Lady Ducks with nine kills as well as 17 digs and 10 serves received on the night, while Harms also had nine kills to go along with two aces and nine serves received against Caldwell.

Taylor senior Ansley Reed had seven kills, while junior Katelyn Aderhold had three kills of her own. Lady Ducks sophomore Makenna Watson continued her outstanding play with 10 digs and 21 serves received, while senior Ri’Queleigh Holmes-Grant also had 10 digs for Taylor and nine serves received.

Stepping up to make a lot of plays to help their teammates succeed were sophomore Peyton Wamble and senior Camryn Nunamaker. Wamble had 14 assists and served up four aces, while Nunamaker had a team-high 15 assists for the Lady Ducks with seven digs in the win over the Lady Hornets.

If Taylor handles business Tuesday night at Smithville High School in the district finale for both teams, the Lady Ducks will remain in first place in the district but may need to play a tiebreaker scenario later this week with Giddings High School at a neutral site for an outright district title.
