Rams end skid with blowout of Griffins
GEORGETOWN — St. Mary’s Catholic School varsity football ended a four-game losing streak Friday, Oct. 20 and secured an upcoming sixman playoff spot as the Rams dominated Grace Academy 62-28 in Georgetown.
This was a much-needed victory for the Rams and also the return of junior standout running back Tyler Zimmerhanzel, who had missed the previous three games due to a leg injury. Zimmerhanzel made his presence known Friday in his return as he led the St. Mary’s offense with 121 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns.
The Rams’ rushing attack proved too much for the Griffins to handle as the team rushed for 294 yards on 37 carries. Junior running back Ethan Lively also rushed for 100 yards and one score on the ground on just seven carries and hauled in a 70-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Kolbe Barta. Sophomore running back Steven Reyes made the most of his opportunities with 32 yards and three touchdowns on just seven carries, while senior tight end Brady Altman got some carries and rushed for 41 yards and two scores while also hauling in three receptions for 41 yards.
Altman led the St. Mary’s defense with a team-high 15 tackles, Barta added nine tackles, Lively had eight tackles, Reyes had eight tackles and Zimmerhanzel also made eight stops of his own.
St. Mary’s currently has not filled its opening for a game Friday, Oct. 27 as their opponent Killeen Memorial Christian Academy has not played a game this season.
